9 Days Rwanda Birding Safari
On arrival at Kigali International Airport, you will be met by our airport representative and transferred to your hotel.
Overnight at your Kigali Hotel
After breakfast, set out for full day birding in the wetlands, lake shores and in plains of South Eastern Districts of Bugesera and Ngoma. Bird watch along the Nyabarongo River wetlands, and continue to Gashora lakes in Ngoma where your search for among others Papyrus Gonelek, Lesser Swamp Warbler, White-winged Warbler, Purple Swamphen and Alleris Gallinule.
Overnight at your Kigali hotel
After breakfast, drive to Akagera National Park.
Akagera National Park boosts of a rich bird checklist of over 525 species. This reflects the extensive diversity of habitat. 44 species of raptors, Papyrus Gonolek, Shoebill Stork and a good number of Paelearctic Migrants amongs which Great Snipe and Lesser Kestrel have been recorded. The park represents the northern limits of distribution of some Miombo and Zambezian biome species including Sauza’s Shrike, Long-tailed Cisticola and Arnot’s Chat.
Proceed and check in at your lodge.
Then set out for a boat ride at Lake Ihema.

Today we look for species listed in the over 500 species checklist known to include Arrow-marked Barbler. Long-toed Lapwing, Sooty Chat, Greater Blue eared sterling, Goliath Heron, Red-faced Barbet, African Marsh Harrier, Bateleur Eagle, Green Capped Fremonela, Bare-facd Go-away Bird, Souza’s Shrike, Crested Barbet, Red-faced Crombec, Trilling Tabora and Winding Cisticolas, Broad-tailed Warbler and many more.
Have early breakfast, check-out and depart to Nuyungwe Forest National Park located in South Western part of Rwanda. You will have a stop-over at Huye Town for lunch.
Then proceed to your lodge driving through the mighty Nyungwe Forest.

Nyungwe Forest National Park is situated in South Western part of Rwanda between the international border with Burundi and Lake Kivu. Nyungwe is divided north – south by a line of mountains that reach between 2600 – 2900 M and which form part of the Congo-Nile watershed.
A total of 275 species have been recorded in Nyungwe, reflecting the wide habitat diversity and altitudinal range. These include all the 28 species of the Albertine Rift Endemic Birds Area that occur in Rwanda.
Early morning breakfast, then set out to Uwinka for the Albertine Rift Endemic birds search. Among the many to look out for include Dusky Crimson Wing, Red=throated Alethe, Archer’s Robin Chat, Gravers Warbler, Mountain Masked Apalis, Red-faced Woodland Barbler, Rwenzori Turaco, Rockefeller’s Sunbird, Collared Apalis, Handsome Francolin, Whitehead Wood Hoopoe, Northern puffback, Yellow-rumped Tinker Bird, Rwenzori Double-collared Sunbird, Regal Sunbird and many others.
Today we will look for species probably missed the previous day. There are many species including Blue-headed Sunbird, Evergreen Forest Warbler, Doherty’s Bush shrike, Neuman’s Warbler, Equatorial Akalat, Barred long-tailed Cuckoo, Sharpes Sterling, Black Cuckoo and many more.
After breakfast, drive back to Kigali City. On the way back, visit Murambi Genocide Memorial, National Museum and King’s Palace
