3 DAYS BIRDING TO AKAGERA
Arrival at Kigali airport or pick up from hotel and transfer to Akagera National Park check in at the Lodge. Akagera National Park is an internationally listed IBA and boasts 0ver 525 bird species, which is 2/3 of the bird species which occur in Rwanda. Akagera will provide plenty of savannah birds, woodland and swamp species, and between the month of September and March, the park hosts a great number of Palearctic migrants including the Eurasian Marsh Harrier, and a number of waders.
Setting out along the Rwamagana road to Akagera, the drive past cultivation and through the villages will produce quite number of species. As you get to the park you will set out for evening game drive recording plenty of grassland and woodland species with birds of prey and later go back to the lodge.
Wake up early morning and have a quick breakfast and this whole day is dedicated for a full day birding stretching from the south to north of the park. spend the half of the day birding in the southern parts of the park especially along lake Ihema and Birengero that are productive for swamp species such as Long toed lapwing, Spur Winged Lapwing, African Wattled Lapwing, Brown –Chested Lapwing, Swamp Flycatcher, African Fish Eagle, African Jacan, Yellow Wagtail,. After you will go further north and also provides many bird species.Return for overnight at the lodge.
After a morning cup of coffee, embark on the another fruitful day as you search for other savannah and wood land species like Giant Kingfisher, coqui Francolin, Red –necked Spur fowl, African crake, Grey Crowned Crane, Bateleur, Red-faced Barbet, Yellow –throated Long claw etc.., After lunch you will set out for afternoon boat trip 0n lake Ihema and later transfer back to Kigali
